Spirometry records forced exhalation. Common values include FEV1 (how much you blow in the first second) and FVC (total forced volume).
The ratio of these values helps describe obstruction versus restriction patterns, which then need clinical interpretation.
Good technique is essential. Incomplete breaths or early stops can make traces hard to use. The physiologist or clinician will coach you.
Results are compared with reference values and, more importantly, with your symptoms and history.
